It was quiet at home and in the streets
and Henk didn't know how for long he had
been looking out of the window or what
he had been staring at. But the sun had
already set and now there was a perky
radiating Venus above the swaying spring
green leaves of two-dimensional pruned
linden trees against the dark blue
sky, showing no other planets or stars,
not even the moon. Only the pavement
reflected the faint orange glow of the
streetlights. The right hand hooked in
the left elbow and the left hand behind
the biceps of the also bent right arm.

He was startled out of his musings
by the phone. "With Henk." "Samrink? ...
Ananasstraat?" "Yeah uh ... " "This
is the police ... sergeant Van Geest.
Walter and Miriam Samrink, are your
parents?" "Uh yeah ..." "They had a
car accident this afternoon ... somewhere
near Grave." "Near Grave ...?" Henk was
so shook up that he forgot to ask ...
"No, you don't have to worry. They are
virtually unscathed, but are taken to
the Radboud hospital for some scans,
to be sure. But the car is completely
ruined." "Yeah thanks, I'm on my way."
